Rewarding career awaits
you in South Dakota

St.
Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, S.D., has provided
care and education for Native American boys and girls since
1927. The school's mission is to offer the basic welfare for
children - food, clothing and medical care - with a special
emphasis on spiritual, emotional and educational development.
St. Joseph's work stretches beyond the campus, reaching out
to other Native American children and adults on South Dakota
reservations.
 St.
Joseph's Indian School is owned and operated by the Congregation
of the Priests of the Sacred Heart (CPOSH). The members of
this Catholic congregation are known as SCJs. The organization
is funded principally through charitable gifts given by thousands
of benefactors from throughout the United States, Canada and
around the world. These gifts help to support the SCJ programs
at the school and at the SCJ outreach programs on South Dakota
reservations.
The
children are placed by loving parents who want to offer them
opportunities otherwise not available, by court appointment
or at the request of Social Services. The students reside
in homes that offer a family environment. There are 17 homes
that accommodate 12 children each, along with two childcare
workers.
 Children
as young as 6 years old are admitted. There is an opportunity
for students to enter at many stages of education, from elementary
school through college. When they are not in school the students
participate in many recreational programs. Older students
participate in job shadowing with staff while high school
students may work in local businesses.
Currently,
the St. Joseph's Indian School is looking for house parents
to live with the students from the end of August until the
end of May. The house parents mentor, nurture and educate
the children. Employees of St. Joseph's Indian School receive
a generous benefit package including health, life, dental
insurance and a retirement plan. Free clinical services and
a free fitness center (including a pool) are available on
campus.
South
Dakota is a business-friendly state. It is the only state
in the nation with no corporate income tax, personal income
tax, personal property tax, business inventory tax or inheritance
tax. "The state offers the best of both country and city living,"
says Donna Dean, St. Joseph's human resources manager. "Wide
open spaces, the Black Hills, the Missouri River, numerous
lakes and major cities on both ends of the state."
St.
Joseph's Indian School is accredited by the Council on Accreditation
of Services for Families and Children Inc. and has been duly
accredited by the State of South Dakota as an educational
facility. For more information about St. Joseph's Indian School,
